The birth of the Maison Jacques Herbin

In 1670, when Louis XIV was 32, Jacques Herbin specialised in sealing wax and fine stationery.

1798

Jacques Herbin starts making inks

In the last days of the Directoire, the company took a gamble on the future and changed its commercial destiny: while continuing to trade in wax, paper and colours (pigments), it launched its own production of writing ink.

1850

Birth of Brause

Founded in Iserlohn in 1850, Brause originally specialised in the manufacture of needles. With the acquisition of a steam engine, it quickly became a modern company. In 1895, production was extended to bicycle spokes and writing nibs.

2021

The start of the Clairefontaine Rhodia adventure

The Jacques Herbin company has been handed down from father to son throughout the 20th century. Under the Clairefontaine Rhodia umbrella since January 2021, Jacques Herbin continues to write a new page in its history. The same applies to Brause, now under the management of Clairefontaine.
